Battle of The Bards




The first poetry slam hosted by the Literati, Battle of The Bards, was held on 19 February 2016 at Bird’s Park by Sakhi Nair and Kunal Srivastava from I EPH. Considering this was a first, the turnout was admirable with 16 people in total, including 8 individual performers and 1 pair. The performers were not only from the English department but also from BSc and BBA courses. Maintaining the traditional format of slam poetry, 4 members from the audience volunteered to be judges. The quality of the performances was more than satisfactory even though this was just their initiation into performance poetry. Some performers also performed their original work with innovative techniques like rap. After getting feedback from the attendees, we concluded that slams hosted in the future will be just as successful and that there is more demand for such events.
